Tire Molds
|
Here's a collection of tire molds so that you can get ideas about
ways of creating your own. If you have a mold you'd like to share,
send me the pictures and I'll post them here.

Another view. You can see the screws which hold it together and the rods
which provide alignment.

Split Mold Pieces
Here it is split apart. To make the mold, I flycut some delrin to get
a nice smooth finsh. I then drilled and tapped the two corner holes for
the screws in one piece and the clearance holes and countersink in the
other piece. I then screwed the two pieces together, and drilled and
reamed the alignment holes. By drilling and reaming the two pieces together
I was ensuring that they matched each other. I then finshed the outside
of the cube to square things up. I then mounted the whole thing on my
rotary table and used an endmill to machine out the cavity. I then drilled
the center hole. Take everything apart, and this is what you get.

Steve Roberts' split mold
Steve contacted me and asked some questions about making a mold. I sent
him some pictures of my split mold (above) and he came up with this.
