Hold Down Clamps
|
Sometimes, the stepblocks are a pain to use. Especially when you need
to perform a repeated operation. I needed to modify a bunch of phone
shells (for work). I found using the stepblocks was a real pain. Loosening
off the clamps they's fall off the stepdown blocks. So I decided to make
a minor modification to my clammps to make the whole process easier.

Add Spring
I then added a spring and washer to the hold down stud. You can see
the phone shell waiting to be modified.

In Use
Here you can see the clamp in the clamped position. I used a jamb nut
to keep the rear rod in place. There's a small piece of black foam between
the clamp and the phone shell to keep the phone shell from being marred.

Unloaded
And here we see the clamp waiting for the next phone shell. The spring
holds it off the table, and the rear rod stays put.
